When my kiddos catch a bug it never really slows them down. They continue to be on the go constantly! I am just running around after them trying to wipe a nose or cover a sneeze. So, that means that “sick days” are still filled with activities. That’s why I came up with this “happy kiddo” playdough recipe, to keep them happy and occupied.

Why did I choose to use Thieves and Lavender? Glad you asked!

Thieves essential oilThieves oil is a blend of five different therapeutic grade essential oils, including cinnamon, clove, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary. This combination offers immune support

Lavender essential oil: Lavender oil is a wonderful oil that helps bring a positive mood and a sense of relaxation

  • Divide the dough into balls and add Thieves to one ball and Lavender to the other. I just add oils until they are very fragrant — typically about 20-30 drops in each ball
  • Store in an air tight container. I even keep mine in the fridge, it lasts for months!

  1. I do not have cream of tartar and want to make this today. Is there a substitute?? Can I leave it out? Thanks!!

  2. That seems like an awful lot of EO to be using, especially for kids. Do you have an EO reference sheet I could look at?

    1. Hi Erin, I add the oils basically until I can smell them well enough to get the benefits of the oils. The playdough balls are pretty big, so 20 drops easily disappears into the dough. You can certainly use less if you want 🙂

  3. Has anyone had any experience with the Thieves burning eyes…since it is a hot oil…touching playdough, then mouth, eyes, etc. Just curious!!

  4. I just made this! One ball with Thieves oil, and the other with Lemon and Lavender. For extra fun, I added GLITTER! ?I put some in cute little jars and plan to give it to my nieces for Christmas! I wonder…Do you have a recommended blend containing Vetiver for my niece who has ADHD?

    1. What an awesome idea!! I would simply add Vetiver to the playdough, if you wanted to you could add in lemon or peppermint too — they help my kids stay on task
